so Bernie wants more double points races? here’s an idea

Bernie Ecclestone apparently wants more F1 races to count for double points, so we thought that we might be able to help him out here.

Not just can we help him achieve his ideal, but also generate a few extra quid along the way; you never know, it might just help with his court fees.

So the idea is this: The pay-per-view and subscription services for F1 races offer a premium extra option for their subscribers. They will be the only ones to get this option because, let’s face it, the F1 organisers don’t give a tinker’s cuss about any other sort of fans.

The deal is that at the halfway point of every race they will get the option via the red button to vote on whether or not the race they are watching will count for double points. They will have to make their vote on that lap; the option will be lost as the last car on the lead lap crosses the line to start the next lap and the vote will be yes or no, so there is no certainty that it will be a double pointer.
Given that reliability is likely to be a big issue this year this does not mean that fans will be able to guarantee their favourite driver a win even if he is way ahead at the half way point, but they might, so it will be a bit of a lottery and that has to be better that watching a Red Bull drive off into the sunset every time doesn’t it?

So there we have it; random double points on every race and no-one will know until the half-way point has been passed. What fun!

For those of you reading this and thinking “What a load of (insert own preferred expletive!)” you are right; it is a load of bolleaux, but, in my opinion, so is the whole concept of double points races. I just thought that I would take the opportunity to have a bit of fun at the expense of the idea.
