Weekend round up – 4th June 2012 #NASCAR #IndyCar #DTM #F1

This weekend saw #NASCAR in action on the Monster Mile and the #Indycar boys and girls on the streets of Detroit. The #DTM were on another away race, this time in Austria at Spielberg and #F1 had a weekend off before their Canadian outing next weekend. They also lost another of their elder statesmen with the death of Roy Salvadori at 90.

#DTM Edoardo Mortara turned another pole position into his maiden win, bringing his Audi home ahead of the BMW of Martin Tomczyk. Gary Paffett was third for Mercedes and still heads the championship table after 4 rounds with two wins, a second and a third. Next stop back in Germany at the Norisring in 3 weeks time.

#NASCAR saw Mark Martin mail yet another pole position for MWR’s #55 car, but it was the #48 of Jimmie Johnson that came away with the win at Dover where there were just 21 cars running at the finish, the wrecks staring as early as lap 8 when Tony Stewart was amongst the casualties. Jeff Gordon had a good run and led well in the second half of the race before dropping back after having to make a extra stop to have a wheel tightened.

#IndyCar seems hell bent of self-destruction yet again. With some of the teams orchestrating a campaign to get rid of the guy who probably saved the series for them they had a nightmare time in Detroit when the track began to fall apart and the race was red flagged for over 2 hours. Scott Dixon won the shortened event from team mate Dario who somehow managed to move up around 5 places over two late restarts.

#F1 has managed to keep itself in the news with the row of the Red Bull floor being settled in favoiur of the controversial holes having to be modified. All a bit of a yawn really. Still, they’re in Canada next week at one of the best circuits
